Carter had his first day of preschool today! I have to admit that I was very nervous and did not sleep very well at all last night because I was concerned about how the day was going to go. Carter started having major separation anxiety again two or three weeks ago. We’re not sure why it reared its ugly head, but once again, we are facing a crying child when we leave him anywhere!
Carter did not talk highly of preschool all weekend and would tell me, “I don’t want to do that” when I would ask him if he wanted to go to school. We talked it up all weekend and finally this morning in the car on the way to school, he started to sound a little excited; until we walked to the door of his classroom. I had Seth in tow in the stroller and quickly explained to Carter that Mommy would be back later after he had fun at school. He cried, the teacher took him, and I left. I will admit that I did cry on the way home and Seth was sweet enough to join me in crying all the way home. Although I know that Carter will love preschool after a few days of adjustment, it is hard to imagine that he is old enough to be going to school.
After 5 very long hours, I waited in line to pick up a very happy, excited little boy! He talked about the first day all the way home…telling me 1) he didn’t need to cry, 2) he hit his friend Jackson (we had a talk about that one), 3) he didn’t take a nap, 4) he didn’t eat lunch, and 5) he loves ring-around-the-rosies (we’ve played this over and over this afternoon). I am so thankful that his first day was positive (at least in his eyes)! We’ll see how Thursday goes…

Glad you got the classic “stand up against the wall” Jensen pose for the first day of school.

Carter is going to love school! He looks so precious. I cannot believe our boys are old enough to be in school. Jackson mentioned nothing about being hit. They were probably wrestling and having fun. I have a feeling their stories about school are going to crack us up.
